Bio:

Michele Laws has been through a complicated divorce herself. During her case, many financial issues such as undisclosed out of state business, hidden assets, and “forgotten” accounts surfaced too late for her to benefit from. There were many ploys during the proceedings, such as stall tactics and efforts to temporarily reduce his income to distract and deplete her of any savings she had. The judge made decisions on her case SIX years after the divorce. This settlement only awarded her 18% of her marital assets! Much of this was due to the overwhelming amount of issues, missed assets during the proceeding, and financial analysis wasn’t completed prior to trial. The ex was granted 82% of the marital assets. Her divorce attorney’s ability to protect her was limited. The judge failed to look at the short- and long-term effect and only looked at the dollar amount.

Michele is passionate about assisting others by evaluating critical financial situations that are beyond the scope of a Family Law Attorney’s expertise. She empowers her clients to make the most with their lives and money. Many of her clients come to her feeling powerless, desperate, and discouraged. Michele’s goal is to give them hope in their situation and educate them on how to become independent and take control of their financial lives. She understands the importance of having a divorce team, not just legal counsel. She is able to analyze the numbers for division of assets, perform various forensic applications to attempt to find hidden income and assets as well as valuation of your business. She can assist you on putting together the documents the courts ask you to complete of your income, expenses, assets and debts and many of scopes of work. If you go to trial, she is able to produce reports to assist the court in your case and testify to those reports

She holds a B.A. in Business with a specialization in finance, a Certification as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA), a Master Analyst in Financial Forensics (MAFF) from the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts and Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) from the National Associated of Certified Valuators and Analysts. She is an Investment Advisory Representative with advisory services offered through Portside Wealth Group, LLC, an SEC Registered Investment Advisor.
