My name is Mary Stewart Nelson, and I am the Managing Member of Fish Nelson & Holden, LLC, a law firm in Birmingham, Alabama.  I graduated from Birmingham Southern College in 2001 and University of Alabama School of Law in 2005.  I am a member of the Alabama State Bar.  I am married with one daughter, Charlotte (age 4), and 3 dogs.  I enjoy large puzzles, maps, spending time with my daughter, and swimming.

I have been practicing law since 2005.  Although I initially planned to go into litigation, fate took me in a different direction, and my first job was as General Counsel for a venture capitalist.  From this position, I created a niche in the practice of law specializing in real estate and small business formation and management.  When I transferred over to my law firm in 2013 full-time, I launched the Corporate & Real Estate Division of my firm, wherein I provide real estate closings, help people start and manage small businesses, and write and review contracts of all types.

I do not practice divorce law, but I have realized that, whenever someone gets divorced, they usually need to sell or refinance the house they are in, or buy a new house.  That is where I come in.  I can help with them with the closing on their sale, purchase, or refinance.  I can help with commercial property divided up in the divorce as well.

Also, I have formed many husband & wife – owned companies, but if they ever get divorced, one spouse will need to transfer his/her ownership to the other as per the divorce order.  I can help them with the paperwork to complete this transaction.
