About

Biography

Having experienced and survived my own divorce and the custody decisions of the young children, I have a small window into my client’s journey. For several decades (yes this dates me) I have worked with children and their parents in calm (relatively) and very contentious cases. I am forever humbled by what I learn from those with whom I work.

I am licensed as a clinical social worker and have gone through 12 years of psychoanalytic training. While we have moved on from Freud, this training has been invaluable in my work!

Shortly after graduate school, I worked at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital. This was also where I and another intern started  our pet therapy program in the geriatric psychiatric nursing home. Several years later I was one of the founding members of the Soldiers’ Project. The Soldiers’ Project offered free psychiatric and psychological services to active duty Iraq and Afghanistan service men and women and their families. We also offered the same services to veterans and their families of these wars. This is where I started my work with couples and families.

My office is physically in Brentwood (West Los Angeles) but COVID has opened so many new ways of doing things. I use FaceTime, phone, zoom, or we can meet in person. I have found that I can work with clients very effectively even when one moves to Moscow!

Services

Once COVID hit, it became increasingly difficult to work with the children because there are severe limitations with what one can do over zoom. I truly love working with parents, alone or together, to find a way through the separation, the divorce,  and the afterlife.

I have marveled at one spouse as she moved from total immobilization to a thriving independent woman who is engaged to be married. Another who learned of his partner’s full secret life which included sizable embezzlement……My hope and aim is to help people to make sense of this painful chapter in life and to grow from it. Essentially, to allow more mind space to be available for the wonderful things in life-children, social, work…..and not have that space consumed with the anxiety, sadness, rage that we all experience in this process.
