Monthly Member Meeting | The Divorce Professional’s Guide to Holistic Divorce

Virtual Event

February 16, 2027 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EST

Holistic Divorce is designed to help families reclaim the healthiest, most joyful parts of their lives. It is not just a powerful tool; it is a revolutionary way to use divorce as the starting point to a better life. Holistic divorce is not only the family’s finances. It incorporates the well-being of the parties, their children and extended families, their emotional process and their future happiness. “The Divorce Professional’s Guide to Holistic Divorce” will show professionals in non-adversarial and traditional divorce settings how to help clients achieve better outcomes in their divorce proceedings and – more importantly – their post-divorce lives.

We will address 5 critical junctures, and how to utilize them to improve the clients’ experience: Pre-engagement; Beginning of each session; Heated moments; End of each individual session; and at the End of the matter. Participants will have an opportunity to practice addressing and turning around clients’ outdated fears and irrelevant concerns. I will also discuss my 5-step process for helping clients understand the true uses and purposes of divorce in their lives.

The presentation includes a brief discussion of ABA Model Ethics Rules 1.3, 1.6, 1.7 and 1.9 and how they apply in this work.

Key objectives and takeaways:

  • Identifying and controlling critical junctures to deepen the holistic experience of divorce
  • Helping clients understand the purpose and meaning of divorce
  • Improving client satisfaction by giving them better outcomes in and beyond divorce
  • Using and modeling the 5-step process in and past divorce

Speaker Bio:
“Divorce is a transition, not an obituary.” This conviction has guided Attorney Sharon Oberst DeFala’s practice since 1992. She demonstrates that, while a divorce decree marks the end of a marriage, it should also serve as an opportunity for growth.

Attorney DeFala has spent more than 30 years helping individuals and families navigate difficult life-cycle events. In addition to family dynamics and financial issues, these events affect physical, emotional and spiritual health. Attorney DeFala utilizes the holistic approach. She draws upon her experience and training as a lawyer, mediator, Certified Divorce Specialist (CDS™), and Reiki Master.

Her unique skill set enables her to integrate traditional legal skills with vetted healing practices. This approach honors the whole person and helps her clients build the foundation for a healthy, empowering, new beginning.

She is a lifelong resident of Fairfield County, Connecticut, where she lives with her husband and their two children.
