When the richest people in the world divorce…
Between the Bezos’ and now the Gates’, both in long term marriages, both are in the top 5 richest couples in the world, what do you think are their biggest and most complicated issues?

A difference in what they want their legacy to be. Melinda included trust and estate counsel on her pleading. She wanted to ensure that she would be in control of her legacy. With so many of my clients in my estate planning practice, I see this happen! The wealthier spouse (often the husband) has the reins on the relationship and the purse strings. Then, the other spouse realizes that the only way to have her voice heard is to take the money that she is due (in divorce) and make her own decisions. There should be a better way.
Another thing to consider, is like in Elon’s SNL skit, the wealthiest in the world are not “normal, chill dudes”. That’s why they got to where they are. Emotionally, they likely are very different as well. When the mental energy is so strong, often the heart gets turned off. No matter how wealthy, we all want to feel LOVE.
For many women, once financially security is guaranteed, they are ready for self love and control of their own purse strings.
