Special Needs Chapter Meeting | Speaking for Those Who Need Us: Expert Testimony in Special Needs Cases

In divorce cases involving children with special needs, expert testimony and detailed reports play a crucial role in ensuring that their unique requirements are properly addressed in custody and financial decisions. By providing clear, evidence-based insights, experts help courts navigate complex considerations, ultimately shaping outcomes that protect the child’s long-term well-being. In this presentation, we will review:
- Preparation for Court Testimony
- Delivering Expert testimony in Court
- Post Testimony Considerations
Expert Testimony focuses on addressing issues that arise, such as:
- Issues Regarding Diagnosis and Plan of Care
- Child Custody and Parenting Time
- Support Issues and Special Expenses
- Public Benefits (SS, Medicaid, etc.)
- When child with ASD reaches adulthood (Guardianships, Residential Issues, etc.)
- Other Issues
I will share tips, stories, tools that illuminate challenges faced by families with special needs children if and when these cases are high conflict and go to trial or before a judge.

Lili A. Lili is President Emeritus of the national Association of Divorce Financial Planners (ADFP). Chapter Meeting
Chapter meetings occur monthly and are facilitated by the chapter leadership. In addition to networking and building relationships, each member has the opportunity to present an NADP Ed Talk and provide valuable divorce-specific education to their fellow chapter members.
