Monthly Member Meeting | Split UP, The Teen Years: A Film Screening
June 21 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm EDT
Looking Back at Divorce, What Worked and What Could Have Been Better
Approved for 1 General CLE by the Florida Bar
In 2012, the award-winning children’s film about divorce, SPLIT, was released. In this film, the personal stories and lessons learned from twelve children between the ages of 6 to 12 years old are told. Since its debut, this profound and touching film has been enthusiastically embraced by divorce professionals both as a resource for co-parents and a tool for practitioners.
Ever wonder what happened to those kids?
Now you don’t have to. Ten years later, a new film has emerged, Split UP: the Teen Years which explores how these kids have fared as they’ve grown older in a separated family.
In this session, attendees will get an opportunity to screen a cut of this newly released film and listen to the SPLIT kids as young adults. Additionally, this workshop will include a Q&A with Filmmaker, Ellen Bruno, and information from divorce parenting expert Christina McGhee regarding the dynamics of divorce for children later in life.
In this session participants will:
1. Participate in an interactive discussion regarding the material presented and explore the dynamics of divorce that follow children as they become teens and launch into adulthood.
2. Learn about key issues that are often overlooked by parents and discover how divorce professionals can offer supportive guidance to these families.
3. Gain insight into the practical ways both Spilt films can be used in by practitioners in a variety of settings.
4. Acquire key information about how and when to use the films with clients and how to guide parents in sharing the film with their children.
